How it works
One system can cool in summer and heat in winter.
Many modern split air-conditioning systems use a reversible heat-pump cycle. A suitable model can move warmth out in summer and provide heating in winter, operated from its controller and, where supported, an app.
Cool in summer
A correctly selected system is designed around the room heat load and chosen indoor conditions. Performance depends on the property, equipment and weather.
Warm in winter
Many split systems are reversible heat pumps, so the same equipment can provide heating as well as cooling when correctly specified.
Efficiency depends on use
Heat pumps move heat rather than creating it directly. Actual electricity use depends on system efficiency, outdoor temperature, room losses, tariff and how the controls are used.
